Hari Singh Nalwa & Begum Bano

During the times of Sher-e-Panjab, Raja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh Raaj (kingdom) stretched from Delhi to Kabul (in Afghanistan). Raja Ranjit Singh's key general was Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa, who was a Rehatvan (strict observant) Sikh of the Guru. Once Hari Singh Nalwa had set up camp with his army in Jamraud in Afghanistan. A local Muslim woman called 'Bano' watched the Sikhs set up camp. She found Hari Singh Nalwa very handsome and attractive, and wished to have an illicit relationship with him.

One day Bano came to see Hari Singh Nalwa. He was sitting in his tent, when the Sikh guards told him that he had a local woman who wished to see him. Not knowing who this lady was or what she wanted, Hari Singh gave permission to come and see him. Bano said, "I had heard of the Sikhs. You are remarkable people. I have been watching you from a distance. I am not married and have no children, but desire to have a son who is like you."

Hari Singh did not understand the motivation or intention of Bano and said, "May Waheguru bless you that you may have a son with the qualities of a Sikh." Bano irritably said, "I want to have a son with you Sardar Ji."

Hari Singh Nalwa said, "O sister! I am already married. I am sorry I cannot marry you or give you what you want."

Bano's eyes welled up with tears of disappointment. About to leave, she said, "I had heard your Guru Nanak was great and that no one leaves empty handed from Guru Nanak's House, but today I am being turned away without the wish of a son being fulfilled."

Hari Singh Nalwa, a true example of a Sikh of the Guru, replied, "It is true that no one goes empty handed from Guru Nanak's House. I cannot give you a son, but if you desire a son to be like me, then instead if you accept, from now on I will be your son, and I will consider you my mother." Bano was shocked and overwhelmed by Hari Singh Nalwa's sincerity, high moral character and faith in the Guru. She said, "I had heard that Sikhs of the Guru are great honorable people, but today I have seen it with my own eyes. From that day on Hari Singh Nalwa addressed Begum Bano as "Maa" (Mother) and she addressed Hari Singh as "Putar" (Son)

A Miracle During World War II

In 1964, when some of the holy weapons of Guru Gobind Singh were
brought back from England, an Englishman, in complete Sikh form,
accompanied the weapons. The Englishman was asked by someone the
reason for his adopting the Sikh form. "Was it due to respect for the
weapons or was there any other reason?" The explanation given by him
at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is...

"My name was A. David. I happened to be commanding a Sikh Regiment
during World War II. My Regiment suffered very heavy losses. Most of
the soldiers of my Battalion were killed. Only a few survived, and we
were all surrounded. As there were very remote chances for our
survival, I called the Subedar Major of the Battalion and informed
him about our precarious situation. Death was facing us and there was
no chance of our survival. I suggested to him that the soldiers
should individually attempt to escape from the enemy encirclement and
save their lives.

"The Subedar Major replied, 'We cannot bring disgrace to the Sikh
Regiment by running away from the battlefield.' However, he had a
suggestion that they should perform an Akhand Path (a continuous
reading of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib) and take action as guided by
the divine hukam. Accordingly, necessary security arrangements were
made and the Akhand Path was completed without interruption. After
the ardas, the hukam was explained to me by Subedar Major and the
granthi (religious teacher). The guidance given by the hukam was that
we should not abandon the battlefield; victory will be ours.

"Then I conveyed to them the miracle that I had witnessed during the
ardas. While standing with my eyes closed during the prayer, a fully
armed Sikh on horseback, with a unique grandeur, appeared in front of
me and ordered 'Follow me.' I pointed out the direction in which the
fully armed Sikh went after giving the order, and asked the Sikh
soldiers about the identity of the warrior. The Subedar Major said
that by my description, he knew it was none other than Guru Gobind
Singh. So, we got ready and launched an attack in the direction
pointed out by the Guru. After a short while, we were able to break
through the enemy encirclement and save ourselves. We then got in
touch with the Brigade Commander on wireless and requested additional
help.

"After the war, I reflected upon the incident and the divine
personality who had saved my life and my men's lives from a desperate
situation by ordering me to follow him. I made up my mind to follow
him for the rest of my life. I resigned from the army, and along with
my daughter, I embraced Sikhism with the initiation ceremony of the
Khalsa. Now my name is Devinder Singh and my daughter's name is
Surjit Kaur. This is due to the blessings of Guru Gobind Singh who
took pity on us and made us his disciples."

This incident was narrated to me by my younger brother Sardar Raghbir
Singh (Retired Subedar), who happened to be present at Gurdwara
Bangla Sahib on the day the Englishman (Devinder Singh) narrated his
above mentioned personal experience.

Baba Mohan Singh Bhindranwale - Katha Video

This is a very good video of some amazing katha by Sant Giani Mohan Singh Bhindranwale talking about the various forms of Darshan.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Aasaa, Third Mehla:
The True Guru has dispelled my doubts.
He has enshrined the Immaculate Name of the Lord within my mind.
Focusing on the Word of the Shabad, I have obtained lasting peace. ||1||
Listen, O my mind, to the essence of spiritual wisdom.
The Great Giver knows our condition completely; the Gurmukh obtains the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
The great glory of meeting the True Guru is
that it has quenched the fire of possessiveness and desire;
imbued with peace and poise, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
Without the Perfect Guru, no one knows the Lord.
Attached to Maya, they are engrossed in duality.
The Gurmukh receives the Naam, and the Bani of the Lord's Word. ||3||
Service to the Guru is the most excellent and sublime penance of penances.
The Dear Lord dwells in the mind, and all suffering departs.
Then, at the Gate of the True Lord, one appears truthful. ||4||
Serving the Guru, one comes to know the three worlds.
Understanding his own self, he obtains the Lord.
Through the True Word of His Bani, we enter the Mansion of His Presence. ||5||
Serving the Guru, all of one's generations are saved.
Keep the Immaculate Naam enshrined within your heart.
In the Court of the True Lord, you shall be adorned with True Glory. ||6||
How very fortunate are they, who are committed to the Guru's service.
Night and day, they are engaged in devotional worship; the True Name is implanted within them.
Through the Naam, all of one's generations are saved. ||7||
Nanak chants the true thought.
Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined within your heart.
Imbued with devotion to the Lord, the gate of salvation is found. ||8||2||24||

Sant Gurbachan Singh & Bhai Randhir Singh

....Take a look at how much respect Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji BhindranWale had for Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji, this is what he writes in the book "Sri Gurmukh Parkaash" about Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji in prose.

Such was the love and respect Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji has for Bhai Sahib. He refers to him as "Dhan Guru Piaray, and Sant."

Baba Kartar Singh & Bhai Fauja Singh

...During the 1970's Baba Kartar Singh used to hold joint Smaagams with the Jatha when Bhai Fauja Singh Ji and he were alive. They were both very close. Bhai Fauja Singh Ji and the rest of the Jatha never read Raagmala then, but there is not a single recording or written statement by Baba Kartar Singh Ji against the Jatha or Bhai Randhir Singh Ji. You would think if he was a witness he would have brought this up in the public.

From what I know about Baba Kartar Singh Ji is that he was very up front and truthful, if he had witnessed such an event he would have never held it back from Bhai Fauja Singh Ji or the Jatha...

Bhai Rajinder Singh & Baba Thakur Singh

I remember meeting Baba Thakur Singh back then in 1998, he never talked to anyone. Talked only when there was something important.

The Singh with Bhai Sahib during that time told dass that, when some taksali singhs told Baba Thakur Singh that Bhai Sahib was coming to meet Baba Thakur Singh ji. Baba Thakur Singh immediately stood up and rushed to greet Bhai Sahib

at the door. Baba Takur singh also had quite a long conversation with Bhai Sahib, which is quite unusual for him.

Well, this is how much love and respect gursikhs have each other

Sant Jarnail Singh Ji

When Sant ji told us to stay united under that ONE Nishan Sahib, he also told us the way this could be achieved.

When Bhai Swarn Singh Ji, nephew of Baba Jernail Singh Ji got released from the Jail he went to Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib ji to get a Akhand Paath Sahib done. At that time Raag Maala was not read there, even in Akhand Paaths so when the Paathi Singh reached the end Bhai Swarn Singh Ji and other Singhs forced him to read raag maala, even though it wasn't the maryada of Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib ji to read it. So that paathi Singh had no option but to read it. When Baba Ji found out that the maryada of Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib ji has been broken or changed by force he became angry and approched Bhai Swarn Singh Ji who was sitting in Sangat. Upon reaching Bhai Swarn Singh Ji, Baba Ji asked him to stand up at once and then he slapped him in the face infront of the whole Sangat.

I didn't write this story to offend the pro Raag Maala readers or to take side of the anti Raag Maala people but to prove the point that live and let live can solve the issues like keski and Raag Maala in no time. Baba Jernail Singh Ji is so closely related to the Damdami Taksal and this taksal has always been very supportive of Raag Maala but despite of this, Baba Jernail Singh Ji punished his own nephew. Why? Because he had no right to change someone else's maryada. If some Singh wants to read Raag Maala, he can do 100 paaths everyday at his own house, but he should not force his own beliefs on those people who dont' believe in it. Similarly if some Singh does not want to believe in Raag Maala, it's his choice, but he should not force his beliefs onto others. So in other words, don't mind if Raag Maala is not read at the next AKJ smagam Akhand Paath Sahib, or if it's read out loud at your local Taksali Gurdwara Sahib....

Remember ONE Nishan Sahib.

(I might be mistaken with the name. Bhai Swarn Singh Ji could have been Bhai Karnail Singh Ji. Either of these two names)

Sant Attar Singh & Bhai Randhir Singh

Sant Attar Singh
Bhai Randhir Singh

At another house after Amrit Vela, Pooran Ji told the sangat a story about a particular instance with Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji and Bhai Randheer Singh Ji. I have included the clip at the bottom of the post. In the clip, Pooran Ji is telling the sangat about a time when Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji was doing Amrit vela in a Pind and Bhai Randheer Singh Ji showed up. After the Amrit Vela, the sangat began singing a ‘tharnaa’ “Thooray Vajdheyney Jina Ne Japiyaa, Jina Ne Japiya” which Bhai Randheer Singh Ji objected to. However, Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji replied to Bhai Randheer Singh Ji that the sangat in the village were simple people and from the ‘tharnaa’ they would slowly begin doing Naam Simran. Another individual asked Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji why he was giving Amrit to so many people especially those that were not ‘kesh dharee’. He replied by saying that just like a farmer plants seeds, he knows that some crops will grow and some will not, I am planting seeds within all those who wish to take Amrit. It is up to Guru Sahib Ji whether those seeds will grow and sprout or not. He explained the love that gursikhs had with each other, he said it was common for Bhai Randheer Singh Ji to attend Sant Attar Singh’s Divans, and when he would see Bhai Sahib he would stop and say “I cannot continue Bhai Randheer Singh ji is here and he will do keertan.
