Departing of Giani Amolak Singh

Narrated By A Gursikh related to Giani jee (Who called Giani jee, Massar Jee)

At The Hospital

The moment i entered the room i felt like i was hit by a tidal wave of Naam energy. Massar Jee was lying on the bed surrounded by family members and other Singhs. The room was jam packed and everybody was was reciting the Gurmantar loudly. I felt humbled by the love with which i was received. I was given space right beside the bed on Massar Jee's right side.

I quietly said Gur Fateh to Massar Jee and joined the others in Simran. I wanted to touch Massar Jee's feet or hug him but i was very scared. I did not want to cause him discomfort or break his concentration. After a moments it became clear that Massar Jee had very little connection with his body. A Singh applied some water to Massar Jee's lips and tongue but there was no reaction from Massar Jee. The only sign of life was heavy breathing. I bent down and touched Massar Jee's knees. Sensing my urge, a dear elder Veer took hold of my hand and slipped it under the sheets. Massar Jee was very cold. I rubbed his knees while someone started reciting Raamkaalee Kee Vaar. We did five recitations of the Vaar.

There wasn't much change in Massar Jee's condition. The whole Sangat started doing Chaupai Sahibs collectively. There was so much energy in the room. No one was feeling any tiredness. Many times the parents tried to send the kids away but no one would leave. We did five recitations of Chaupai Sahib as well.

Miracle Of SukhmaNee Sahib

There was no pre-planning or discussions as to what to do next. It seemed like some force was using to do one Paath after another. We were blissfully obeying. After the Chaupai Sahibs recitations one of us got the urge to start Sri SukhmaNee Sahib. Everybody joined in the Paath. It was a matter of pride that most in the family knew the Paath by heart. What else would one expect from a great Gursikh who was a big lover of SukhmaNee Sahib! Not to be left behind, the kids got hold of Gutka Sahibs and joined in the recitation.

Never before have i seen such immediate impact of SukhmaNee Sahib. Massar jee's breathing had normalized completely. It was as if he comfortably sleeping. ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤ ਰਲੀ

A Few Singhs came to visit Massar Jee. The family respectfully made room for them and some stepped out. Simran continued while someone did more recitations of RaamKalee kee Vaar. An hour or so later the Singhs left and the whole was back on duty. Divine inspiration got us doing SukhmaNaa Sahib. The recitation was charge with high emotions. Eye were wet as the lips quivered "O' Lord we are in your protective custody". We were all praying for our dear Bapoo Jee, dear Massar Jee. "We beggars are at Your Door, O' Lord, please have mercy on us. Keep us focused on Gurmat Naam". We did Shabads from Ramkaalee M-5-Rutee after this.

It was bout 2.45am when we started Japjee Sahib. We were all a bit relaxed, as Massar Jee seemed to be peacefully in sleep. As we got into the Pouree of Sodar, moist cloth was applied to Massar Jee's lips as we had been doing every so often before. This time Massar Jee moved! At first we were all excited. "Massar Jee is waking up", we thought. The head moved a few times as if Massar Jee was spitting out something. The Paath continued at the same pace. Everyone was on his or her feet. Suddenly Massar Jee's breathing slowed down significantly. He would take a deep breath in and then nothing for a while. There was no sign of any tension or discomfot. But everybody now knew that the time had come. There was not a another breath as we finished Japjee Sahib. We continued on to finish the Nitnem and then Sohilaa. It never felt like Massar jee had left us.

Prehaps he was indeed there for the Paath. "ਬਾਪੂ ਜੀ ਗਏ ਢਾਢੀ ਪਹਚ ਗਿਆ ਖਸਮੈ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ", remarked an insightful Singh after the Ardas. Truly there was no doubt after that.
